Find the range of possible lengths for the third side of a triangle. 6 cm, 6 cm.

OpenStudy (freckles):

so given a triangle we know the sum of 2 sides we pick should be greater than any 3rd side

OpenStudy (freckles):

that is say we have sides a,b,c then we have a+b>c a+c>b b+c>a

OpenStudy (freckles):

so I will call your sides a=6,b=6,c=? enter in these values and see if you can come up with a range for c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well doesn't the length lie between 0 and 12? Since 6-6 = 0 and 6+6 = 12? or is that completely wrong lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ex) 6-6 < L < 6+6 0< L < 12

OpenStudy (freckles):

what inequalities do you have?

OpenStudy (freckles):

I'm just right now asking you to sub into the inequalities I have already provided.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6+6 > C 6+C > 6 6+C > 6

OpenStudy (freckles):

yep you are right 6+6>c 6+c>6 6+c>6 solving the first gives 12>c solving the any of the other 2 gives us c>0

OpenStudy (freckles):

putting that together gives you that c is between 0 and 12

OpenStudy (freckles):

gj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :3

OpenStudy (freckles):

wow openstudy is so messed up it is like now showing the right order or something that we posted things

OpenStudy (freckles):

but anyways do you understand ?
