!!PLEASE HELP!! What are the positive and negative aspects of having a government system which uses separation of powers and checks and balances?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its quite apparent that without checks and balances like some countries lack, organization and the guarantee that a law should be passed would not exist. With so many checks and balances to go through, more time is allowed for careful review and also, less mistakes are made. This is why the president doesn't immediately pass laws and in fact the senate and house have more influence then the president himself. Negative aspects include the fact that the people don't exactly pass the laws for themselves and the dominating party can override another party's idea
