What is the solution to the system of equations? x+y=5 x-2y=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What method?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitution method.

Cool, so what you want to do for this is isolate one of the variables (get x or y on its own) then substitute that into the second equation. Lets go from there for now, so can you do that please? Pick any variable and isolate it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I started the top one. I had y=5-x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very good, now what you want to do is take that y = 5-x and plug it as y in the second equation and you'll be left with just x to solve hence you can solve x. So do you understand what I'm saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright so what does it look like when you plug the y expression in the second equation?
