x^3-x^2+x-1=x^2+1

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

@tom982 Wanna help explain this one real quick?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^3-2x^2+x-2=0

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Could you cross out the -x^2 with the x^2?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

And get like x^3+x-2=0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, no because they're on opposites of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^3 +x^2 +x +1 = 0 Separate : ( x^3 +x^2 ) + ( x +1 ) = 0 Commutative Law : ( x^3 +x ) + ( x^2 +1 ) = 0 Distributive Law : x*( x^2 +1 ) + +*( x^2 +1 ) = 0 Factor : ( x +1 )*( x^2 +1 ) = 0
