having numbers 1-n which are randomly order what is the probablility that the numbers are in ascending or descending order? help thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

damned unlikely i would imagine we can do it with 1,2,3 and see how it works only one arrangement is in ascending order out of a total of \(3!\) arrangements

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since it is "ascending or descending" my guess is \[\frac{2}{n!}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since there is two ways it could happen right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am guess too that seems about right
