how did the people in medieval times react to the black death?

They died, mostly. The survivors were scared, questioned their religious beliefs and looked for some one to blame. The Jews were a convenient scapegoat. The survivors also gained a bit more respect in the work force. Thinning the herd makes those left more valuable.
