Why did John Winthrop believe the colonists’ religion should guide their decisions as they build the colony? Compare his beliefs to Roger Williams in terms of the separation church and state. I need to have 5-7 sentences And I'm lost

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Winthrop was governor of the Mass. Bay colony for 12 of the first 20 years it existed. The colony was founded as a religious refuge for non-conformists who were being persecuted in England. The people of the colony, with Winthrop in the lead, wanted religious freedom for themselves but not so much for other people. The Puritan belief system was pretty much the law. Roger Williams disagreed. While he shared many of Winthrop's religious views, he though there should be more separation of church and state. He also believed people should be allowed to belief differently than the majority. That's why they kicked him out of Massachusetts.
