i just read a fact that brain cells die within 3mins of oxygen starvation. https://ph.news.yahoo.com/video/10-things-happen-die-171002851.html @ 3:19 just wondering, if im underwater; hence, im holding my breath, is that already considered oxygen starvation, if so, if im able to hold my breath for 3mins, does that mean my brain cells are in danger??? or does it need to come to the point that i drown for it to be considered oxygen starvation??
Hey there!
When you hold ur breething, u still have some oxygen present in your blood which keeps circulating to all the parts of your body including your brain.
You can hold your breath longer underwater than above water. The body has some kind mechanism
mammalian diving reflex
Your brain will start to starve when all the oxygen in the blood stream is used up and no new oxygen is coming in.
you can recover from small amounts of brain oxygen starvation , the brain is resilient
you want to get the heart pumping as soon as possible
Brain oxygen starvation can lead to comma or permanent disability of that centre..
The Medical term for it is `Cerebral Hypoxia`
Hypoxia is a general term for reduced oxygen supply. Hypo + Oxia. Prolonged oxygen starvation is termed as `Anoxia.`
ahh i see, thanks for all the clarification sirs, i learned new facts thanks :)) thumbs up
ur welcome :)
