i just read a fact that brain cells die within 3mins of oxygen starvation.

just wondering, if im underwater; hence, im holding my breath, is that already considered oxygen starvation, if so, if im able to hold my breath for 3mins, does that mean my brain cells are in danger??? or does it need to come to the point that i drown for it to be considered oxygen starvation??
