How did the Civil War influence the role of government in the United States? It showed that the national government was weak and ineffective. It illustrated how states were unable to make adequate decisions. It highlighted how the national government was the sovereign power. It revealed that national and state governments could not work together.

Hum.... this is difficult I know that taxs were a thing the the south didnt like along with the invention of the cotton gen they wanted to keep slaves longer. There was also more Honor for your home state were your family was than our country thats why Robert E Lee didnt join the Union
