Why was the Articles of Confederation discarded?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Seriously?..... >.> ugh. the Articles denied Congress the power to collect taxes, regulate interstate commerce and enforce laws.... That went over well right?

OpenStudy (nurali):

The short answer is that the government was run very inefficiently, and state rule dominated over all else. Nationally, each state was run like its own country. The federal government had limited power and could not levy taxes if the states did not want that to happen. I can't recall from US history text, but I believe states had their own separate currency as well. Thus the founding fathers convened to restructure the country and find a balance of power between states' rights and running a unified government.
