Determine whether the function rule models discrete or continuous data. Explain your reasoning. \ 5. The local grocery store sells bananas for $.34 per pound. The function P(b) = 0.34b relates the total cost of bananas to the number of pounds b bought.

@Secret-Ninja

OpenStudy (cicilybailey14):

I'm pretty sure its continuous but i need work shown and I don't know how lol

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Discrete data is a set of data values with unconnected data points, often a count or score. Continuous data is any data that has infinite values with connected data points, often a measurement.

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

I would also choose Continuous. No matter how many pounds you buy, you can see the pattern with the price.

OpenStudy (cicilybailey14):

okay...Are we able to show that in number lmao?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

I am not very sure how to explain it but maybe you can put random pounds bought for 'b' and test it out to prove it? I'm not sure.

OpenStudy (cicilybailey14):

Okay..i'll try

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Like this. Say you bout 2 pounds of bananas to make banana pudding You insert it for the variable: P(b) = 0.34b P(2) = 0.34 x 2 P(2) = 0.68 So 2 pounds of bananas cost 68 cents (awesome deal for bananas right?) lol

OpenStudy (cicilybailey14):

haha it is lmao Thanks so much!

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

No problem. :]
