Which one of the following does NOT prove congruency in right triangles? Select one: a. HL b. AA c. HA d. LL

Miracrown (miracrown):

What do you think?

Miracrown (miracrown):

For congruency, we need at least 1 length. Angle angle can only be used to show that triangles are similar not congruent.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

HL = Hypotenuse Leg AA = Angle Angle HA = Hypotenuse Altitude LL = Leg Leg It's a bit confusing how the "A" for AA stands for Angle while the "A" in HA stands for Altitude.

Miracrown (miracrown):

I agree, it can get confusing sometimes.

D? @Miracrown

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh apparently, according to this page, http://www.wyzant.com/resources/lessons/math/geometry/triangles/right_triangle_congruence the A in HA stands for Acute (or Acute Angle). Read that link and you'll be able to eliminate the non-answers to get the final answer.
