why can't gravimetric analysis be used to determine the concentration of sodium nitrate (NaNO) in a solution?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

your formula of sodium nitrate is incorrect. It should be \(NaNO_3\), but either way this is a question of precipitation. A gravimetric analysis depends on your ability to WEIGH a precipitate formed from a double displacement. What do you know about the precipitation of the nitrate ion?
