is the following pair parallel, perpendicular or neither y=-1/5x+5 y=-1/5x-1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

(a) If the slopes of the two lines are equal, then you have parallel lines. (b) If the two slopes multiply to -1, then the two lines are perpendicular. (c) If neither (a) nor (b) are true, the two lines are neither parallel nor perpendicular.

wait, so the answer is c?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Note about (a) If the slopes are the same and the y-intercepts are the same, then you have two equations graphing the same exact line. They are essentially the same equation. One line will lie perfectly on top of the other.
