Which functions have a positive rate of change and which have a negative rate of change? http://prntscr.com/5cs4mz @iGreen @Directrix @Callisto @Loser66

OpenStudy (igreen):

Rearrange 2x - 3y = 9. Subtract 2x to both sides: -3y = -2x + 9 Divide -3 to all terms: y = 2/3x - 3 Okay, now it's in the form of y = mx + b, where m is the slope..so what's the slope of y = 2/3x - 3? @iRespect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[m = \frac{ 2 }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, and is that positive or negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Positive

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, so 2x - 3y = 9 has a positive slope.

OpenStudy (igreen):

What's the slope of y = -4x + 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[m = -4\]Negative

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, so y = -4x + 5 has a negative slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m = 3 for the next one?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Here are the graphs for the two tables. Are they positive or negative? https://www.desmos.com/calculator/dezbscdtbh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) Positive 2) Negative

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, so for #3 it's Positive, and #4 is Negative.
