Why is realism said to be a reaction to romanticism? Unlike the romantics, realists chose to glorify topics such as war. Unlike the romantics, realists chose to use figurative language. Unlike the romantics, realists chose to write about beauty over sentimentality. Unlike the romantics, realists chose to write about kings and noblemen. Unlike the romantics, realists chose to use real-life situations over idealism.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Realist is a person of a real view on a word. (roughly and basically, don't take it precisely) For A, romantics chose to glorify topics such as war. not realists. Romantic people tend to use figurative language (like metaphors, similes and etc.,) more, so I would exclude B. C is also not true, because it is just the opposite. Romantics chose to write about beauty over sentimentality, not realists. D is also not true, romantics tend to write stories like this, where as realists write about the reality, which is certainly not that, not kings and noblemen. E is true, no?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

And they certainly don't embrace idealism, considering it to be a uthopia.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am not good at literature, but this is 100% E.
