8th GRADE LINEAR EQUATION HELP MEDAL+ FAN PLZ HELP QUICK! The owner of a bike shop sells unicycles and bicycles and keeps inventory by counting wheels and seats. One day, she counts 15 seats and 22 wheels. Which equation in slope-intercept form shows that x bicycles and y unicycles have a total of 22 wheels together?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think your problem can be mathematized as follows: if I set x=number of unicycles, and y=number of bicycles, then we can write: \[x+y=15, x+2y=22\]

OpenStudy (mwhit2101):

Um okay.. is that it? Cause that doesn't really make any sense, nor is it anything related to my homework answer choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10 bicycles and 2 unicycles ! |dw:1417639708845:dw|

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

@mwhit2101 I think that your answer is the second equation that I wrote above

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Sorry solving the system that I proposed, I got: unicycles=8, and bicycles=7

OpenStudy (mwhit2101):

Oh I see what you mean @Michele_Laino now! I just have to rewrite it in slope-intercept form for it to be one of my choices.

OpenStudy (mwhit2101):

y=-2x+22

OpenStudy (mwhit2101):

Thank you @Michele_Laino it was correct :D thanks so much

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

if you change x and y roles then you are right!, namely x= numbers unicycles, and x= numbers bicycles

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

@mwhit2101 thank you!
