What can happen after a lake receives a large input of limiting nutrient

Well, the biological make up would definitely be altered. Plants that utilize such nutrients would dwindle in number and in turn affect the rest of the species down the food chain. Fish that also breed in such junctions with a particular richness in nutrients (rivers draining into the lake carrying nutrients) would end up having a low reproduction rate since there wouldn't be enough nutrients to feed their offspring.
