Well that's not too bad, considering most immigrants took the same route to the United States. Lets start by picking an immigrant from a European country.

You can write about a famous immigrant, but I wouldn't. If you made up one, it would be easier to make your own story rather than doing research to find one. Did your teacher said you have to write about a famous immigrant?

Ok, start with that. I'll just tell you the most common way immigrants came to the States, and you can do a little more research with this and refine it and so on.

They basically came here on a large ship, it was extremely cramped in it. It took months to get here, I think it was 2 months. Or 2 weeks, not sure, look into that part. The boats did carry immigrants with diseases. Just look more into the boats they came in. After that, they arrived in 2 ports, depends were you came from. The most common port was the one in New York City I believe, look into that. After that, they had legal inspections, checked for weapons and so on. If something wasnt right, or you had contribans, you m'am, are in serious trouble and will be deported back to wence you came!

After that, they had a REAL tough time, lived in real bad places called "The Slums", look into that. Often factory owners took advantage of the workers in many ways, especially through language barriers.
