The ratio of the number of cups of blue paint to the number of cups of red paint that Lara mixed to make a shade of purple paint is 3:1. Part A: Write a sentence to describe the number of cups of blue paint that Lara mixed with each cup of red paint. (4 points) Part B: How many cups of red paint should Lara add to each cup of blue paint to make the shade of purple? Explain your reasoning. (4 points) Part C: If Lara purchased 6 cups of blue paint for $48, what is the unit price per cup of blue paint? (2 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So can u help ???????????????????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dumbcow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry no but i recamend @iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Ratio of CUPS OF BLUE PAINT to CUPS OF RED PAINT. is 3:1. So how many cups of blue paint did she pour in, and how many cups of red paint?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am guessing 3 cups of red and 1 cup of blue?

OpenStudy (igreen):

No, you got it backwards.. since it's blue paint to red paint, and the ratio is 3:1, it would be 3 cups of blue and 1 cup of red. So you can write the sentence: Lara poured 3 cups of blue paint mixed with 1 cup of red paint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG thanks

OpenStudy (igreen):

How many cups of red paint should Lara add to each cup of blue paint to make the shade of purple? Explain your reasoning. I think they want you to keep the same ratio of 3 cups of blue paint to 1 cup of red paint. So like if you put 6 cups of blue paint, you would put 2 cups of red paint, etc. So you have to find the cube root of 3 to see how many cups of red paint you put in 1 cup of blue paint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this the answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Find the cube root of 3..that would be your answer. \(^3 \! \! \! \! \! \sqrt{3}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find that

OpenStudy (igreen):

Just type in Google 'cube root of 3'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what i got 0.13398937 m2

OpenStudy (igreen):

No, try it again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen is that is

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh, wait nevermind I'm doing this wrong.

OpenStudy (igreen):

What's 1 / 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

OpenStudy (igreen):

Type it in google..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did

OpenStudy (igreen):

I got \(0. \overline{33}\). The line on the top means it goes on forever..

OpenStudy (igreen):

So for ever cup of blue paint, Lara has to put in approximately 0.33 cups of red paint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh u mean 1 divided by 3?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes.

OpenStudy (igreen):

That answers your Part B.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Now for Part C.. If Lara purchased 6 cups of blue paint for $48, what is the unit price per cup of blue paint? Just divide 48 / 6..what do you get? @joejoe213

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for c its 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, that's it..each cup of blue paint is $8.
