ok now they are saying "compose" notice the open small circle
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
instead of the dot
OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
okay I thought that's what it was :D
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
(g o f)(-7) is the same as g( f(-7) )

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
okay
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so what you need to do is find f(-7) first
OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
okay so I do -7^2+6
49+6
f(-7)=55?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes now you plug in the result of 55 in for x in the function g(x)
OpenStudy (jhannybean):
Remember, there is a difference between \(-7^2\) and \((-7)^2\)

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
okay so (x+8)/x
(55+8)/55
63/55
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
very good
OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
so that is the final answer :D thank you so so much!!! :D
OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):
I couldn't figure it out but now that you explain it, it makes it so much easier! :D
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
and Jhannybean has a point, say (-7)^2+6 because
(-7)^2 = 49 which is what you want
while -7^2 = -49 is the complete opposite of what you want

true. I always forget to put parenthesis lol but I normally think to not put the - if it is supposed to be in parenthesis if you know what I mean lol :D
