Draw triangle ABC. Is it a right triangle? If yes, how do you know? (use slopes to justify)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 could you maybe help me with this. I figured out the slopes.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so looks like you have calculated the slopes already

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good, what do you know about a right triangle ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

there will be two perpendicular sides in a right triangle, yes ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

there is a relation between `slopes` when lines are perpendicular

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if the product of slopes is -1, the lines are perpendicular

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

multiply the slopes of AB and BC what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get -1

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that means AB is perpendicular BC and that also means the triangle is very much a right triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yw!
