Find the length of the missing side..Help?
@ganeshie8 Do you know anything about this type?
use pythagorean theorem
That's the thing - I don't know how to do that haha.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
34^2 + b^2 = 38^2 solve b
Do I like minus 34^2 from both sides?
yes
Would that make it b^2 = 288 or b^2 = 4?
34^2 + b^2 = 38^2 b^2 = 38^2 - 34^2 use your calculator
Oh, I was supposed to rearrange the equation to b^2 = 38^2 - 34^2 instead of subtracting from both sides like a two-sided equation? O.o
both give you the same result you're allowed to do anything as long as you do it to both sides
I used my calculator and it gave me 288..So it would become b^2 = 288^2? or would it just be plain 288?
34^2 + b^2 = 38^2 -34^2 -34^2 0 + b^2 = 38^2 - 34^2
Oh right ! 288 is correct
b^2 = 288 b = ?
Hahaha, okay. But now I'm confused what to do next. Because I can't like divided or multiply b by 288 because it's a letter..
take square-root both sides
Ohhhh. So the answer is 17? Because I can't get a square root of a letter, and the square root of 288 is 16 with a bunch of numbers behind it, so I needed to round.
Yep!
Yay :D Tysm!
