I believe you make them both have the same demoninator. So it'd be 12/15x+20/15=?

OpenStudy (ericanoel912):

4/5x +4/ 3x 1st, you need a common denominator. that would be 15 x. so multiply the first term's numerator and denominator by 3. 12/15x+4/3x Now you need to multiply the numerator and denominator of the second term by 5. 12/15x+20/15x simplify that.

why do they both have an x ?
