What was the importance of the Supreme Court having its own independent building? Congress could continue to hold a position of power over the court based on location. The president could hold a position of power over the court based on location. The court was no longer beholden to Congress for room. The new building emphasized the national scope of the court. Justices could be kept away from lobbyists who would influence their judgments.
