Which belief was generally held by the Founding Fathers at the Constitutional Convention in 1787? Slavery should be abolished. Presidents should be powerless. A stronger central government was needed. A larger navy and a smaller army were needed.

This is a History Question, its best if you post it in the History Topic...I'll help you anyways... Okay, we know the Constitutional Convention was AFTER the Articles of Confederation, meaning Americans have noticed that a) the national government cannot be weaker than the state government and b) we need taxes, whether we like them or not. We are in the process of drafting up a new document to guide our government. What was one significant difference between the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation? If you guessed the balance of powers between the states and National Government, you are correct. After the Articles of Confederation, the National Government gained more power, but kept it distributed fairly among the lower governments. The Government now had the power to tax. Okay, so its 1787. Slavery did not get abolished until 1865. We can eliminate A right off the bat. Now, as far as I know, the Founding Fathers never spoke an idea similar to the one of "Presidents should be powerless", however, they did express their somewhat hostile feelings towards a monarch or king. I do believe that the Founding Fathers were smart enough to realize, even though they did not want a tyrannous leader, that they needed some sort of figure with authority to lead the United States. We can eliminate the second choice, for it doesn't make much sense. A stronger central government does sound good, after all, that was one major thing that the Articles of Confederation failed at. A larger navy and smaller army does sound a bit...nonsensical in a way...After all, military matters, although they were greatly discussed, were not one of the most important issues at hand during the Constitutional Convention. Okay, so we've analyzed all the answers...Which do you think most fittingly?
