0.9122 I have to identify the underlined place then round each number to that place. The first two after the one is the one that is underlined Can someone help me with how to do this problem?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Ok so basically the 9 is in the tenths place, the one is in the hundredths place, and the first 2 is in the thousandths place

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would I round the 2 would I cancel the 2 behind it or keep it the same?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

You only round up if the number after the first 2 is above 5, but it isn't so if you need to round to the hundredths you round down, in other words it would be 0.912

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Sorry typo round to the thousandths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if I had a larger number thatI would round like 0.2382 And I had to round the eight would I keep the numbers behind it or would I throw them out?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

if they were asking you to round to the thousands you would throw the 2 out. however if it said 0.2385, then you would round to 0.239

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright so you would throw the number out behind the number being rounded no mtter if it went up or stayed the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Matter*

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

no it depends on if it is 5 or above or not, anything above five rounds the number before it up, but anything 4 or under you throw out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. Then I think this is the last one 74.879 the eight is underlined would I keep the numbers behind the eight?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Ok so it is asking you to round to the tenths place if the 8 is underlined, which would mean in this case yes you round up so you would write 74.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so I get this now thanks!

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

no problem (:
