Mars One is a Danish organization that plans to establish a human colony on Mars by 2025. As awesome as this would be, the new colonists may have some problems with staying on the ground: the gravity on Mars is much weaker than it is on Earth. An object’s weight can be calculated by multiplying its mass by the local acceleration due to gravity: 𝑤 = 𝑚 × 𝑔. It’s that 𝑔 that’s different for each planet: on Earth, 𝑔 = 9.81, but on Mars, 𝑔 = 3.71. Question: If one of the future colonists weighs 155 pounds on Earth, what will their weight be on Mars?
