Help medal! How to factor with 4 numbers? like this: 16v^3 -2v^2 + 40v-5

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Hint: \(16v^3 -2v^2 + 40v-5\) = \(2v^2(8v -1) + 5(8v-1)\) You can complete the factorization by grouping.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks... but what do you do after its 2v^2 (8v-1) + 5 (8v-1) ??

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You would find that (8v-1) is a common factor between the two terms. Therefore extract (8v-1) as a common factor and the factorization is complete. For example: 5x(2x+1)-3(2x+1)=(2x+1)(5x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what is the answer? Exactly?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Study my last two posts and work out your answer. I will be glad to tell you if it is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So (8v-1) is the common factor which means is the answer?
