On Halloween, Shawn approaches a door in his superhero costume, a pillowcase in his hands. The adult who is handing out treats has a bucket of four kinds of candy: 10 sour drops, 14 pectin fruit candies, 12 butterscotch buttons, and 4 chunks of rock candy. Shawn is hoping for the rock candy. What is the probability he will get what he wants?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 40 pieces of Candy in total. so you take the amount of the candy he wants over the total amount of candy so the probability is \[\frac{ 4 }{ 40 }\] which can be simplified to\[\frac{ 1 }{ 10 }\] so the probability he will get rock candy is 1 in every 10 tries, or 10%
