how do scientists come up with hypotheses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, at the beginning, there is an unsolved problem. Most of the times, there also exists problems that are kinda similar but already solved. This can be a guideline, delivering DOs and DONTs. The scientist has to theoretically work out experiments that could give him clues about the unsolved problem. Next step is the actual experimenting. Last step is interpreting your data. What can you conclude from your experiments? Which follow-up experiments do you need to do to 100% prove/disprove your hepothesis? That's the basic steps for you.
