What is the distance from the coordinate pair negative three comma one to the coordinate pair one comma five? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

OpenStudy (dmndlife24):

On a graph, plot an extra point at (1, 1) and connect the lines form each point to make a right triangle. Now, we can use the pythagorean theorem by using the formula a2 + b2 = c2 (letting c = distance). From (-3, 1) to (1, 1) there is four units and the same from (1, 1) to (1, 5). So a = 4 and b = 4... 4^2 + 4^2 = c^2 16 + 16 = c^2 32 = c^2 Take the square of both both 32 and c^2 to simplify... 5.66 = c
