The Encomienda System was treated almost the same way that Hitler advertised labor and concentration camps. They promised shelter and food and told them that wealth would soon come the harder they worked, and that they'd get pieces of land, but for the most part, the people were barely paid, were treated harshly, and many died due to starvation and exhaustion.
