In what way did economic factors influence political developments in the annexation of hawaii? Native Hawaiians, who depended on American sugar planters for jobs, pressured American leaders to annex the islands American sugar planters in Hawaii, who favored annexation to protect their profits supported a revolution that ousted Queen Liluikalani Faced with a surplus of sugar, American planters in Hawaii pushed for annexation so that the sugar trade could be opened to markets in the US. D.
D. American leaders who favored annexation passed laws prohibiting tariffs on sugar, making sugar all the most profitable for american planters in Hawaii.
I'm thinking D.
Hmmm...Let me remember. I used to love American History, and I thought the Hawaiian part was rather interesting.
It's not A or C. The Natives didn't want their home to be taken away, and the sugar trade was already open to the Americans on the mainland.
And, it's not D. It's B.
Thanks! I was thinking that it could be B, but my lesson didn't say much about Queen Liliuokalani. Could you try to help with a couple more?
"American sugar planters in Hawaii, who favored annexation to protect their profits supported a revolution that ousted Queen Liluikalani" The Sugar planters took over Hawaii by indirect force. They wanted to remove the tariff problem this way, because as a state, there would be no tax on the sugar. And, sure.
Just give me one second.
I'm back. Next question?
This political cartoon below shows presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan: In the cartoonist's view, what effect was unionism having on the United States? Union leaders were assisting government leaders in corrupting society Unions were fighting graft and intimidation in government Unions were helping defeat corruption and violence in society Union leaders were fighting corruption within the unions. http://elections.harpweek.com/1908/cartoon-1908-Medium.asp?UniqueID=32&Year=
I'm leaning toward B.
Geez, I hated that guy. I could never remember his name... Okay, let's look at this guy. Labor unions.
Now, from what the text says, I'm leaning towards your assumption.
Alright! Next one is... Why did the government encourage Americans to grow food in victory gardens during world war I? to sell the food to raise money for the war effort to have more food available to feed the troops to stockpile the food in case of a German invasion to create food banks to help those affected by food shortages.
B.
I just realized I was neglecting you! I'm sorry...That's what I get, handling two questions at once.
And I've finished with the other one. My undivided attention will be on you.
Your fine! I appreciate your help. In what way did the outcome of the Spanish American War help lead to the building of the Panama Canal? Spain's defeat meant that thousands of workers from Cuba and Puerto Rico would now be free to work on the canal Panama gained its independence under the Treaty of Paris and the Panamanians believed building the canal would bring economic growth American territories now stretched from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean , and a canal would make governing its new lands easier The american victory led to the spooner act, which allowed the united states to buy the spanish company that had already begun work on the canal
Its either B or C. Im thinking C.
(D is wrong, the company purchased was French. A is a bit shaky. I can see where you would go for either B or C...
B is wrong. The treaty used to declare Panama's Independence was the Hay-Herrán Treaty.
Hay-Herran Treaty. This blasted system won't accept accented letters...
So then it would be C, right?
Yes.
At least, I trust it the most.
I have three more questions if that's ok.
Go right ahead. In the meantime, I'm double-checking to make sure A's not the answer.
How did the Red Scare affect immigration in the United States? Laws placing limits on the numbers of immigrants from certain countries to the United States were passed Immigration to the United States increased as immigrants sought refuge from oppression in their home countries. Laws restricting immigration from European countries were lifted and immigration increased significantly Immigration to the United States decreased as immigrants feared the unrest of the red scare would make life difficult.
I think its A
(Sorry, someone had a misconception over a topic that was dear to me. Now, I'm back to you.) Anyways, I would go with "A." People from communistic countries were oppressed due to fear of divided loyalties.
The quote below was written in the early 1900s: I pledge that in your effort to work out the great and intricate problem which God has laid at the doors of the South, you shall have at all times the patient, sympathetic help of my race; only let this be constantly in mind, that, while from representations in these buildings of the product of field, of forest, of mine, of factory, letters, and art, much good will come, yet far above and beyond material benefits will be that higher good. . . . --Booker T. Washington Source: http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/39/ What would be W.E.B. DuBois's criticism of Washington's quote? It ignores racism and prejudice in the North. It focuses on religion and DuBois was an atheist. It casts blame on African Americans for the "intricate problem." It calls for African Americans to be "patient" and "sympathetic."
Im thinking D.
So do I. I'm looking at A, though, because i want to be sure that it's not the answer here.
Wait, I just looked through the document, and I realized that it's A.
The speech only spoke about kindness and compassion in the South. The only mention of the North was in here: "While we take pride in what we exhibit as a result of our independent efforts, we do not for a moment forget that our part in this exhibition would fall far short of your expectations but for the constant help that has come to our educational life, not only from the Southern states, but especially from Northern philanthropists, who have made their gifts a constant stream of blessing and encouragement." Nothing about the prejudice there.
Besides, I looked up W.E.B. DuBois, and he wouldn't object to peace and compassion from African-Americans.
Thanks! Last one is The chart below shows relief recovery and reform measures of the New Deal Relief: Emergency banking act of 1933 Recovery: Agricultural Adjustment act of 1933 Reform: ? Which of the following should replace the question mark in the last column. The glass steagall act because it showed farmers how to boost production per acre the social security act because it redefined the federal government's responsibility to care for its citizens Works progress Administration because it continued to supply employment for construction workers the Home Owners' loan corporation because it broke down racial barriers that had kept neighborhoods segregated.
"Reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression." So, which do you think that would be?
I was thinking social security act.
I was actually leaning towards the Homeowners on. Do you want me to explain further why?
Yes please. I couldn't find much about that in my lesson. I was thinking SS Act because it say" This relief and reform plan was financed by new payroll taxes paid by workers."
The thing is, here it would allow the government to buy property from the banks. That way, people could keep their homes during a crisis, but they would pay the government, not the banks.
Oh okay, that makes sense. Thank you so much for your help!!
You're welcome! Good luck!
