Amy paid $67.07 for a pair of running shoes during a 40%-off sale. What was the regular price?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

67.07 is how much of the original price?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The regular price is $111.78. I found out by answering the question wrong a few times. Not really sure how to find out this amount without knowing more information.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

If there was 40% off then $67.07 would be 60% of the original price. Do you know how you would find 1%?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not entirely understanding your question. I want to say you want me to multiply 67.07 by 60% thus getting a number and adding it to 67.07?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Not quite. To get 1% of the original cost you would do 67.07*.6. Then to get the original cost you would multiply that answer by 100.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

67.07*.6 = 40.242. Multiply 40.242 by 100? Wouldn't that be 4024.2?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Hmmmm, do 67.07/60 then.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah, there is the answer. 111.783..-. Thanks a ton Jess.
