pay attention to the wording of the problem. It is asking for the ratio of GIRLS to BOYS. So how many girls are there ? 24 How many boys are there ? 20 so the ratio becomes 24:20.....which is the same as 24/20, which reduces to 6/5, which in turn can be written as 6:5 understand ?

ratios can be written as fractions.....2:3 = 2/3 or 2 to 3 simple :)
