Can someone help? Medal. How do you write an equation of a line that models a data set and use that equation or the graph to make predictions?

OpenStudy (phi):

It depends. First, what is the data? It should be a list of points: example: (time, distance traveled), If the points fall exactly on a line, you would pick two points, and find the equation of a line. One way: find the slope between the 2 points, then use y= mx + b, and one of the points to find b.

OpenStudy (phi):

If the data is "roughly" a line, but scattered, then you use a "least-squares" fitted line. This is a more complicated process.

This question was asking in general, its for a study guide.

Thanks though.
