How would I write this inequality in slope-intercept form? 2x - 4y > 8
I know that slope-intercept form is y = mx + b Where m represents the slope and b represents the y-intercept.
Is it -4y > -2x + 8?? @Destinymasha
Do I have to divide both sides by -4?
If I do then...y < -2x -2 ??
Do you know anything about converting inequalities to slope-intercept form, @Abhisar ?
@mathstudent55 , are you familiar with slope-intercept form and inequalities (with two variables)?
-4y>-2x+8 is a good start
and you are correct out dividing by -4 but your calculation is not correct
and remember when you divide an inequality by a negative number, the symbol flips so in this case, it goes from > to <
This is what I did... 2x - 4y > 8 Divide both sides by -4 2x + y < -2 (because 8 divided by -4 is -2) Then subtract 2x from both sides... y < -2x - 2 So, what is wrong here
@haleyelizabeth2017 I know :p
you need to subtract first lol
Following the rule of PEMDAS...
Division and multiplication comes before addition and subtraction
so go from: 2x-4y>8 to -4y>-2x+8 then divide y<1/2y-2
pemdas doesn't really work for these....believe me, I already took this class and got a high A lol
You cannot divide 2x by -4y. They have different base. I'm confused as hell right now
When moving things from one side to another it goes SADMEP
so if you do it your way, it will still turn out the same way. 2x-4y>8 -1/2x+y<-2 y<1/2x-2
you divide by the coefficient (-4) not the whole thing
I never learned that @sleepyjess! Well I guess we can all learn something new every day :P
You know..I think it would be best for me to just ask my dad. Because I honestly feel that you guys are wrong. If you are right then you'll get a medal. I'll be back...
I just learned how to do it, not SADMEP........
okay
|dw:1418064598908:dw| I decided to make this as I wait for my dad to finish painting a wall...
