Directrix (directrix):

x + 4y = 10 2x - y = 470 ------------ Multiply the first equation by -2 x + 4y = 10 ---> -2x -8y = -20 2x - y = 470---? 2x - y = 470

OpenStudy (danjs):

i just showed you how to do that type of prob

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

multiply 1st eq by -2...then add them and the x's cancel out and you can solve for y. Once y is found, sub that back into either equation to find x

OpenStudy (danjs):

ha, people just cheating on online tests or something here

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

answers were not given

OpenStudy (danjs):

i just did a problem exactly the same with different coefficients

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

elimination can be a bit confusing for some...just be patient

OpenStudy (triciaal):

to solve by elimination let the coefficients of one variable be equal and opposite so they will cancel when the 2 equations are added you now have one equation with one variable solve for that variable then substitute this value in either of the original equations to get the value of the other variable.

Directrix (directrix):

-2x -8y = -20 2x - y = 470 ------------- @KathyMae95 -2x -8y = -20 2x - y = 470 ------------- @KathyMae95

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (danjs):

only the answer is important to some people i guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if i did it right it would x= 210 and y = -50
