Recall the first step in the process to determine theme. Summarize at least three events that happened in the fable.

The Ants and the Grasshopper One fine day in winter some Ants were busy drying their store of corn, which had got rather damp during a long spell of rain. Presently up came a Grasshopper and begged them to spare her a few grains. The Ants stopped work for a moment, though this was against their principles. They asked what the grasshopper was doing with himself all last summer. The Grasshopper replied, "I was so busy singing that I hadn't the time." "If you spent the summer singing," replied the Ants, "you can't do better than spend the winter dancing." And they chuckled and went on with their work.

OpenStudy (deathdragons7):

This passage is about a grasshopper and some ants (obviously) the ants worked when it was nice out and now they have food for when its icky out. The grasshopper on the other hand played and now he had no food. So the ants turned him away for being lazy. In this passage the them they are trying to portray is work comes before play.

Can you recall the second step too @deathdragons7

OpenStudy (deathdragons7):

1. Summarize the plot by writing a one-sentence description for the exposition, the conflict, the rising action, the climax, the falling action, and the resolution. 2. Identify the subject of the work. 3. Identify the insight or truth that was learned about the subject. • How did the protagonist change? • What lesson did the protagonist learn from the resolution of the conflict? 4. State how the plot presents the primary insight or truth about the subject. 5. Write one or more generalized, declarative sentences that state what was learned and how it was learned.
