they may be continues or non continues....
in continues forms photosystem 2 continues with photosystem 1
and always photosystem 2 gives ATP by absorbing 680 nm of light 
and photosystem 1 gives NADPH+H by absorbing 700 nm of light...

and this whole reaction to occur require protons which is acquired from water ....!!!
the water molecule breaks and gives protons and electrons .....and this type of break in water molecule is called photolysis of water...[which is again a great study].
