A prime number is a natural number greater than 1 that has no positive divisors other than 1 and itself.

OpenStudy (uri):

If a number doesn't come in any table except 1 and itself is a prime number.

Most unfortunately, there aren't really any clear-cut ways of determining the prime-ness of numbers... you have to use your gut. If a number has any sort of divisor (that is, any number that neatly divides it into whole number parts) then it is NOT prime.
