OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

WILL MEDAL AND FAN ANYONE WHO HELPS!! Some bacteria conduct a type of photosynthesis that creates ATP but does not produce NADPH or split water. How might the evolution of cellular respiration have been different if this had been the only type of photosynthesis to evolve?

OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

@deepika.comet @sikinder

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

yeah bacteria like cyanobacteria will undergo only one type of PS but not other.... this is all because they have a specialised structure called heterocyst with is made of three layers and is very sensitive to Oxygen... so photolysis of water gives oxygen and may damege the heterocyst leading to the death of organism.....so they dont undergo one of the PS.. Oxygen inhibits the enzymes in the heterocyts so they are sensitive to O2..

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

hope i was clear and it helped you..!!!

OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

Okay, I am still a little confused...why would cellular respiration be different if only this type of photosynthesis had evolved??

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

cellular respiration occurs in mitochondria... right...!! but even bacteria lacking mitochondria also have cellular respiration but lack few steps...!!!

OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

okay...so what would be different about cellular respiration? If the photosynthesis did not split water or produce NADPH, how would it affect respiration?

OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

@deepika.comet???

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

photosynthesis is a process that create glucose by using energy,it will not creat energy respiration is the process the create energy from the glucose.so,if photosynthesis effects glucose will not release such that in cellular respiration energy is not created

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??????

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

@nerdgirl6

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

@mgkelley98 wat happened

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

somethings wrong with commmmpputter

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

@nerdgirl6 sorry i was offline.... so if photosynthesis did not split water molecule then its simple that they undergo anaerobic respiration.....hope you know what it is...!!! so in anaerobic respiration also we see the production of NADPH but releases alcohol.... so in this way they get their energy..!!!

OpenStudy (nerdgirl6):

Thank you! That makes much more sense!

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

you're welcome my friend...!!! hope i was really helpful to clear your doubt...!!!
