Describe at least one advantage and one disadvantage of the production of novel proteins.
would love to have someone help me out on this. !
Polyploidy is the heritable condition of possessing more than two complete sets of chromosomes. Most polyploids have an even number of sets of chromosomes, with four being the most common (tetraploidy). Polyploids are very common among plants and common among fish and amphibians, and are usually fit and well adapted. Indeed, the study of eukaryotic genomes is providing surprising proof of the evolutionary potential of polyploids: many sequenced genomes display the signature of polyploidy ancestry1–8. This indicates that polyploidy can bestow long-term evolutionary flexibility, instead of freezing species in a static state that is enforced by gene redundancy, as was originally proposed9
