Hello,

Women in the Progressive Era achieved many important reforms. Perhaps their most important success can be remembered as the passage of the 19th Amendment (eg. Women's suffrage). Women also began to redefine the role of the federal government in American society. Women worked hard to expand the scope of the federal government in overseeing issues of education, sanitation, health, wages, working conditions, and social welfare. Before the 19th Amendment women couldn't vote, and if they tried they were arrested (eg. Susan B. Anthony.) After the 19th amendment since women could now change things, For example, in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, many immigrant Italian women were working sewing machines and suddenly a fire broke out in the factory. Around the number of 46 women were jumping out of windows and 100 more were burnt inside. This incident helped start the growth of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, which fought safer and better working conditions for sweatshop workers. It also made there be a legal law for a factory to have fire codes.
