Due to the Mexican Revolution, Mexica had a more stable government along with a new constitution. The large estates were confiscated and the land was redistributed among the people. The educational system became a national, mostly secular, school system, which helped combat influence by the Catholic church. Major industries, such as petroleum and the railroads, were nationalized. Militias were formed by organizing and arming the peasants and workers.
