The population of a city increases by 4,000 people each year. In 2025, the population is projected to be 450,000 people. What is an equation that gives the city’s population p (in thousands of people) x years after 2010?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[P=P _{i}+4000t\] so the population equals the initial population plus 4,000 times the number of years since the inital population recording

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can take 2010 to be our initial population time since that is what we are looking for so 2010 is when t=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now 2025-2010=15 so 2025 is 15 years after 2010 so we can take 2025 to be t=15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we have our population at 2025 and the time so using this we can solve for the initial population

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[450,000=P _{i}+4,000*15\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[450,000=P _{i}+60,000\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[390,000=P _{i}\]

wow thank you so much!
