If you're using the example I suggested, then I'd say something along the lines of: "The excessive use of video games can be harmful to the player."

I'd say to revise it to: "Violent video games can be harmful to children, causing them to be more violent, because of the lack of censorship, normalization of violence, and intense graphics that these video games often feature." :)
