What is the slope of a line perpendicular to the line with equation y = 4x + 5? A. –4 B. -1/4 C. –5 D. 4

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

B. because to find the slope of a perpendicular line, you find the opposite reciprocal of the given slope :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait @kobeni-chan wouldn't it be A. -4, since the slope is 4??

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

You have to find the opposite reciprocal, so you have to make it negative and also flip-flop the number. You have to see it as 4/1, so the reciprocal is 1/4, made negative
