The temperature at 7p.m at a weather station in Minnesota was -5 farenheit. The temperature began changing at the rate of -2.5 farenheit per hour. What was the temperature at 10 p.m. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, since 2.5 have a negative sign next to it, that means the temperature decreases by the rate per hour between 7-10pm is 3 hours So it decreased 2.5 degrees for 3 hours.

The temperature was originally -5 degrees. So subtract (2.5 times 3) from the starting temperature. And that should be your answer!

It would be -5 minus 7.5
